Heather Protz
I am a photographer (BFA ’89, MFA ’91) and a Professor of Photography at the College of Southern Nevada.
My photographic background began with silver gelatin printing. From there, Xerox and Polaroid became a passion on the way to the digital frontiers of today. I believe in the strong tradition of technique. Yet great photographs speak — they speak to the viewer, and this is what drives me to create work.
I received a Nevada Arts Council Fellowship for 2009 and an Ohio Arts Council individual artist grant in 2001. I am represented by Marji Gallery, Santa Fe, New Mexico and Brett Wesley Gallery, Las Vegas, Nevada.
I moved to Nevada in 2004 from Ohio. Shooting in Las Vegas has propelled my image-making forward faster than at any other time in my career. From the bleak to the glitz, the scape is ever changing; My images from straight to composite speak of the duality found in any urban environment, – Las Vegas is the ultimate home of reinvention.
