OBJECTIVE:
•To gain a greater understanding and control over the levels and curves adjustment layers
•To set the white point within a photograph to neutralize any color cast
•To photograph in a controlled lighting situation and make overall color adjustments to a series of images.
•To bring out shadows and highlights within the photograph by use of selective layer adjustments
OVERVIEW
•6 images to be color corrected
•show all Layers (should just be 1 layer)
•.save as: .psd
•these will all be global corrections (1 adjustment layer, correcting the entire image)
COLOR CORRECTION USING THE EYEDROPPERS
Finding the White, Gray and/or Black point within the image to neutralize a color cast.
Use the eyedroppers in the levels dialogue box.
You will color correct the 6 images found on the website.
download the 6 images and correct.
Your white eye dropper should be set R245, G245, B245
Your midtone eye dropper should be set R133, G133, B133
Your black eye dropper should be set R7, G7, B7

DO NOT USE BRIGHTNESS AND CONTRAST ADJUSTMENT LAYERS
•IMAGE 1, white point may be a fooler, not the sky (maybe a chair)
•IMAGE 2, white on wall?
•IMAGE 3, be careful of the black point you choose. this image is noisy a noise spot will not be black Enlarge the image to pick the pixel.
•IMAGE 4, maybe the midtone eyedropper and sliding the highlight input slider to the left?
•IMAGE 5, maybe the midtone eyedropper? (wall between two people)
• IMAGE 6 no help, you are on your own :)
Remember you do not need to use all 3 eyedroppers. (you never use all 3, many times Two) Sometimes only one will work. Sometimes white. Sometimes THE MIDTONE. Look at the histogram in the levels panel, push or pull the slider to the info, maybe this will help. Explore, try. You can always undo…
