assignment: Shooting the Target

Shoot: Raw or .jpg with your digital camera

- You could try shooting both a Raw and .jpg set to color correct.
-You will be color correcting these images in part 2 of color correction coming up, just shoot the images so they are ready to go when you need them.
-Shoot 2 sets of images using the Target
(white, gray, black card, found in the back of the Kelby book)

set 1 available light outdoors, do not use on camera flash, set appropriate white balance not auto WB
set 2 available light indoors use a tripod if necessary, this could be photographed in the studio if you have the experience, do not use on camera flash, set appropriate white balance not auto WB

Remember:
1) Do not have any reflection or glare on the card.
2) Both image 1, with card, and image 2, without card, must be the exact same exposure.
3) set appropriate white balance not auto WB
4) Shoot one image with the card, and the second, same image without card.

The 2 images you are looking at:
The top image is shot with the card.
The bottom image is the color corrected image without the card.
Look at how the color pops, the blue cast is gone.

OPTIONS TO THE KELBY TARGET

QPcard 101 is a reference card targeted for professional photographers. It has three
patches with white, gray and black colors. The spectral respons of the three colors is
almost perfect straight, meaning there will be no problems with metamerism at all.
The colors are extremely fade resistant. The main purpose with the card is to use the
gray patch for neutral gray balancing of the image. The gray patch is reflecting 18 %
of the light, making it useful also for exposure purposes. There is a millimeter reference
scale on the card.
